The ice is not so nice this time of year, the city reminds residents.
Recent warm temperatures have comprimised ice surfaces, the city said in a news release, making walking on ice-covered water unsafe.
Residents are also asked to keep their pets on a leash and off ice, too. City of Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services say if a pet ventures onto the ice, coax it back to shore. Do not go after it. If the pet falls through the ice, phone 911 immediately; do not attempt to rescue it. The fire department will respond with proper ice-rescue equipment, the city says.

Remove snow promptly
The city asks residents to be snow angels this winter and clear their sidewalks within 24 hours of a snowfall.
“Sidewalks can be slippery and snowy, making them hard to navigate,” the city said in a news release.
Under Snow Removal Bylaw 4865, residents are encouraged to clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours. When shovelling walks, residents are asked to shovel snow away from the roadway. Also consider donating time to help clear the sidewalks of neighbours who may need a helping hand.
