Pamela Roth Sun Times If Mother Nature co-operates and there isn’t a repeat of last year’s torrential rains, more than 2,000 people are expected to flock to Spitz Stadium on Canada Day to see the Lethbridge Bulls step up to the plate. The Canada Day Western Major Baseball League game has become a tradition for southern Albertans and is usually a sellout, marking the biggest game of the year for the young team. |

Submitted by Garry Allison The Horses, Rocky Mountain Turf Club It’s fair to say Pete Dubois’ life centres around the race track. From April through October, home for him and wife, Erna, who’ve been married since 1964, is a trailer at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club, with the exception of a two-month break in July and August for the race meet at Grande Prairie. “I’m just plain happy in these, what are supposed to be my retirement years," the grandfather of three says with a smile. "Really, we run horses on the weekend as a hobby.” |

Pamela Roth Sun Times Joe Mauro is a man of many hats. From politician to kitchen cabinet designer/salesman, and the man who took a run for the mayor’s seat in 2004, he is getting ready to switch paths again as the new coach of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s soccer team. Despite being a soccer coach for the better part of the last 20 to 25 years at the men’s league and junior soccer levels, coaching at the college level is something Mauro has never done before. After taking a break from coaching the 14-year-old Lethbridge FC boys recreation soccer program, he decided to take a stab at the Kodiaks women’s soccer team when he heard the position had become available. He was asked if he would coach the men’s team instead and didn’t hesitate to say yes. It is, after all, a sport that has become his passion. |
